Jybug hello and I hope you're doing well! I've read in an article which said experts think melanocytes in the eyes may help protect from damage, toxins, and inflammation. Therefore, what could happen to eyes color for people living with vitiligo maybe impacted if melanocytes in the iris (the colored part of the eye) are affected. 😊

I have blue eyes but very light blue, almost a strangely light grey blue. I didn’t realize, until about 10 years ago, that it is probably due having vitiligo for most of my life. Both my parents had/have a darker blue, even though my Dad also had vitiligo.

Moira hello! Vitiligo can cause hearing loss, which is estimated to affect 12–38% of people with the condition. This is because vitiligo can destroy auditory melanocytes, which are cells in the inner ear that are responsible for hearing.
Vitiligo can cause eye problems such as inflammation of the iris or uveitis, and a partial loss of hearing. The most common eye effect is loss of pigment in the retinal pigment epithelium and choroid, which can cause a sudden change in eye color.
Please identify vitiligo is a systemic disease that can affect many organs, including the skin, eyes, and ears. Treatment can improve the appearance of the skin, but there is no known cure. Routine eye and ear exams may also be part of treatment plans to preserve vision and hearing.
This is for informational purposes only. For medical advice or diagnosis, consult a professional. 😀
