Yasmin, yes I have looked into gut health regarding Vitiligo. Because of this research I have put myself on a gluten free diet. I must admit it was not easy at the beginning but It has been worth while.
I am nearly all white from Vitiligo, so I stay out of the sun. I am quite happy with being white as I’m nearly one colour. But since being on a gluten free diet for around two years now.

My arms are slowly repigmenting. Yay.

Keep in mind that the only time my arms are in the sun are when I’m driving.
So I don’t deliberately go out in the sun.
My theory is that gluten found in wheat inflames the gut in some people (you don’t have to be a celiac) thus causing leaky gut.
Keep in mind that I am not a doctor, just another person trying to work out how vitiligo starts in the body. Get onto the internet and search gluten and leaky gut. And how it affects the immune system.
My sister and I have the same immune system, she doesn’t have Vitiligo but she has rheumatoid arthritis. She is in a lot of pain and is not having an easy time. So several years ago I asked her to try a gluten free diet. At the time she said that going gluten free was too difficult.
But I have just found out they she has tried going gluten free.
And the inflammation in her rheumatoid arthritis has eased. The result is that she is in a lot less pain. Also she has recently eaten bread with gluten in it and the pain returned. She is now a fully gluten free.
So in answer to your question about gut health yes , in my opinion looks like gut health is linked to Vitaligo. I’m m not saying that going gluten free is a cure for Vitaligo But hay it’s helping me.

Read my story on this site.

Sheila, Thank you so much for your reply, it’s very interesting to hear that yours is repigmenting with gluten free, I have also been trying this diet and have seen improvements but not seen much information on it, I look forward to reading your story also
