Can Opzelura Harm Healthy Skin?
I have some pale patches I'm not sure are vitiligo. Doc said to use opzelura on them and that it won't harm the healthy skin, but is that right? I asked AI (Gemini), and it said opzelura can lighten healthy skin. Plus, opzelura is expensive, and I don't want to waste a precious ounce on pale but healthy skin. I have a black light but am having trouble distinguishing vitiligo from healthy skin. Everything seems to fluoresce.
I've been a little skeptical with opzelura so far. March 1 will be month 5. I've been using it in small areas where my vit is. I have not seen anything promising yet but I have seen some new spots in other areas. I can't figure out if the new spots are just new and would have happened anyway or if it has something to do with the opzelura.
I am fair and I have found that even though there are concentrated patches that are definitely vitiligo, the rest of my skin has lightened across my whole body. My feet are so pale its hard to see if there are patches there or if the melanin is just so sparse it is white. Even on my lightest areas though, there are edges at the vitiligous patches that make them discernable. Look under various lighting in different rooms to search for white contours. But, with my use of opzelura, I use it only on areas that bither me visually, like face head and armpits. I save my hands for steroid application because my opzelura will run out if I try to treat every area. Use your best judgment. You can always adjust application. Hope this helps!
