Okay For All Of My Blondes Out There, Does Getting Highlights And Lowlights Trigger Your Vitiligo?

A MyVitiligoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Denver, CO

I don’t have any evidence of vitiligo on my scalp yet but certainly don’t want to encourage it. Basically, I don’t feel very cute in my natural boring hair color. Could I just ask my hair dresser to keep the foils far from scalp?

Thank you for the article! I was afraid that was the answer. Including feeling ugly with my spots now I can’t have hair color which makes me feel better about myself. Sigh

Stacey3 hello because permanent hair dyes can be a trigger for vitiligo, you might want to choose not to use them if you currently have vitiligo or have a family history that includes vitiligo or other autoimmune disorders.
Please read this article, "Is It Safe To Dye Your Hair When You Have Vitiligo?" and the website is https://vitiligosociety.org/vitlife/is-it-safe-...

Stacey3 I have no qualifications to advice you to permanently dye, highlight or lowlight your blonde hair if you have no evidence of vitiligo in your scalp. I have read articles from medical licensed authorities, people with vitiligo should avoid permanent hair dyes because they are more likely to contain harmful chemicals. Even if you avoid contact with your skin, the fumes from the dye can cause damage. You should also avoid non-permanent dyes that contain phenols or PPD. 😀
